The daily take care of dental implant is very similar to natural teeth. We recommend any patient to brush twice daily. Use a soft gentle brush along with dental floss especially to keep the dental implants clean, neat, hygienic in all sides. Oral hygiene aids that are usually recommended for dental implant patients are usually a soft gentle manual or electrical tooth brushes. Second thing is any tartar controlling toothpaste. The third thing that we recommend is oral hygiene aids like mouthwashes. Other than this the dental implantologist also may recommend their patients with inter dental brushes that it utmost important to keep the implants clean and neat as well as to keep it hygienic in between to teeth. We recommend these patients to visit their dentist at least 6 months to one year once to get an annual check up from the dental implantologist, to get a routine annual x-ray done. These x-rays usually help us to identify any problem or any infections around the implants and it tells us the sustaining and the hygiene of the dental implants. If the dental implants are not maintained or if it gets infected first the patient may see signs and symptoms of bleeding. So the gingival or the gums around the implant may get inflamed and it may lead to mucositis. Still it is reversible. Second stage is that it may lead to infection within the bone along with the bone loss. This is called periimplantitis. Even this is reversible if it is identified at an early stage, still you can save the dental implants. On this if there is extensive amount of bone loss there may be failure of implants. So it is recommended to maintain these dental implants.
