Designer Philippe Beauparlant shares a spacious kitchen he designed for a couple with grown children. See how he used light wood cabinetry and black countertops to create a space that’s comfortable yet sophisticated. Plus, find out how he overcame some challenges along the way!
Philippe started by expanding the kitchen layout into the dining room. There was a structural column in the middle of the room, so Philippe stripped it down to its minimum scale and painted it black, creating a camouflage effect. When faced with an awkward angled wall, Philippe shifted the orientation of the cabinetry and filled the remaining space with a slender window. On the ceiling, a series of “fins” anchors the L-shaped island.
