About a year and a half ago I got married and my husband and I moved into a one-bedroom apartment near downtown Ottawa. Ottawa-Gatineau is known as the national capital region of Canada and is a great blend of being a big city (with over a million people) and has small town vibes that are significantly different from Toronto and Montreal.
We have loved living in our small little apartment that we now call home. With Ottawa becoming a bigger city but largely more affordable than Toronto or Calgary, we see more and more people moving here from more expensive areas of Canada. We also see lots of international students and new immigrants moving here to build a life for themselves. For all of you considering a move to our lovely little government city-town, we wanted to make this video to share the kind of costs associated with living here.
We fully acknowledge that you can spend less than or more than what we mentioned here, depending on your budget and lifestyle choices. However, we are currently living on a 'medium to low' budget and believe it could be a good starting point for your budget too. We hope you enjoy the video and please feel free to let us know your thoughts, feedback, questions, etc in the comments down below!
