As part of the rehabilitation and beautification efforts of the Manila Bay, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu and MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia lead the planting of coconut trees along the Baywalk area on Wednesday morning.

Coconut trees and palm trees have been used by resorts all over the world to give a certain “paradise feel” to the tourist destinations.

The goal is to fill the entire baywalk area with coconut trees to further beautify the place, and add green to this soon to be a beach attraction in the metropolis.

The DENR’s rehabilitation of Manila Bay began in 2020 with a budget of P389 million. The funds were allocated back in 2019, or the year before the emergence of the pandemic.

On top of the P389-million budget; an additional P265-million was allocated last month for the second phase of the Manila Baywalk project.

With the budget, the existing stretch of white sand near the US embassy was replenished to achieve the one-meter thickness of sand; while the stretch of sand has been expanded towards Padre Faura outfall "with a length of 140 meters and varying widths ranging from 60-120 meters.

Apart from the coconut trees, solar lightning and fishing wharf are also set to be installed and built as part of the phase two of the project.

After this rehabilitation project will be finished, Manila Bay will no longer be famous only with it’s majestic sunsets; but will also be a famous beach destination within the city. A beach paradise in the Philippine capital.
