Wild Black Raspberries are a delicious summertime treat! You'll find the berries along bike trails, foot paths, fencerows and similar locations. (Do not pick where prohibited). Look for the red berries in mid to late June, and give them a chance to ripen on the stalks. When the berries turn dark purple or black, the wild black raspberries are ready to be picked. Just lightly grab the fruit, and slide your fingers slowly to remove them. Place in a bowl or container. Wild black raspberries has thorny stalks, so long-sleeve shirts and pants are encouraged - and move slowly while harvesting to avoid cutting yourself on the thorns. The berries are high in antioxidants and very healthy. Enjoy the berries mixed with yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast, snacking, baked goods and they go great in smoothies and on ice cream desserts.
