Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is fighting for his life in an ICU... after being shot twice from behind.
According to local reports... with just two days to go until the Upper House Elections, Abe was giving a speech near Yamatosaidaiji Station in Nara City on Friday during a campaign rally for a Liberal Democratic Party candidate.
He was evacuated via helicopter a few moments after the incident... and local reports say that the emergecy services claimed Abe showed no vital signs while being transported to the hospital.
His long time confidante, the current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida immediately returned to his office from rallies as well to respond to the situation.
The Japanese government set up a countermeasures center at the prime minister's office just 15 minutes after the incident.
They are to hold a meeting with relevant ministries to discuss a response.
While promising to do everything he can... Prime Minister Kishida refrained from speaking too much on the political aspect of the shooting as Abe's exact condition has not been clearly declared.
However, he strongly condemned the shooter.
The suspect in custody is 41-year-old Nara City resident Tetsuya Yamakami.
