Pain is the commonest symptom due to injury. Ice can be wrapped in plastic bag and rolled over the area, this will help the pain to not increase. Ice should be there for 30-40 seconds and not prolonged. Skin should be allowed to breathe.If kept for longer duration, skin can be damaged and swelling may increase the swelling. Ice packs help in acute conditions. Tying ice packs around injured area is bad.For long term pain or chronic pain heat helps.
