Geert Wilders has won the Dutch election in a shock victory for the hard-right extreme nationalist that represents a political earthquake in Europe.
Exit polls showed that his Freedom Party (PVV) had swept into a commanding lead of 35 seats, eclipsing mainstream conservative and left political parties.
The result for a key ally of politicians such Marine Le Pen in France will fuel fears of a European Union backlash against the migration crisis before elections across Europe in the spring.
