A lot of cake decorating books tell you to use plastic bags to decorate your cakes and cupcakes with. I don't like this because you just don't have the control that you can get from a parchment cone, made from parchment paper, which is easy to find at your grocery store. Start with a piece about the size of a legal sheet of paper. You are going to fold the paper in half and cut down the seam with a serrated knife. To make your cone you're going to hold your parchment paper by the two longest sides and take your right hand, turn the paper to meet the middle. And the other side is going to go all the way around to meet the three sides. Make a sharp tip. Fold over the bag and there you have it. This will take you a few tries to perfect, but then you can fill it with icing and you're ready to pipe.
