And now for something completely different. In the popular Cave Story mod Jenka's Nightmare, there is an NG+ feature that allows you to get extra heart containers and weapons/items if you load a file from vanilla CS saved before sacred grounds at prefab house. If you have 3 HP in that vanilla CS save, you will start the game with 1HP, down from the 6HP you would normally start with in this mod. I'm combining that with the vanilla CS min items rules--only mandatory items, no weapon trades. Which leaves you with a single weapon for nearly the entire game. The Polar Star until Sand Zone, and the Fireball for the rest of it (I think. I don't remember if the Balrog MG trade is mandatory or not). Thankfully the Fireball has been buffed to 8 damage at level 3 here, but it's still a fairly difficult weapon to use optimally.
This boss is what I would consider the first major difficulty spike in the run. Not anything compared to say, CS+ min items Monster X/Core, but still pretty tough. I will be uploading other mandatory bosses past here and maybe before here, might make a compilation for the Polar Star bosses. Or at least, I will try to. The last time I attempted this run, I got stuck at the Gaudi boss (which IIRC is the very next boss after this one). But I think I'm a much better CS player now, so we'll have a go at it again.
This is the CSE2 port made by Autumn, which allows me to play with 60TPS physics (and a few other QOL features). That also makes it harder, but I just don't like how sluggish 50TPS feels. Also, making it harder is (kind of) a bonus for me. Here's the link for that and the NG+ files if you wanna attempt this run for yourself. The NG+ files will work on both the original mod and the CSE2 port.
