#hip #osteoarthritis #hippain
I have 2 patients in this week that both have Hip OA but are reasonably young. So it's Osteoarthritis that's not very painful - their problem is more tightness and loss of range that stops them doing as much exercise as they want. They both don't need a hip replacement just yet!
They both struggle with adduction ROM so what I give them for homework is an exercise that replicates what I do for them in the clinic with a seatbelt and manual overpressure. Loop a X-heavy powerband around a solid object like a pole. You'll need a bench to lock down the knee. The adduction comes from letting the band drag the hip over to the anchor point, moving the hip into adduction passively. This is such a simple yet effective way of getting more range into the hip with minimal pain.
