Before new cereal plants were introduced in Africa, our ancestors' diets consisted of indigenous African crops. In this episode, I want to talk about one of them: sorghum, which typically refers to cultivated sorghum known as sorghum bicolor.
Sorghum is an important staple cereal crop in West Africa. In Benin, sorghum is mostly produced in the northern part of the country. I went to a village outside of Kandi, in the northeast, to learn more about this West African food staple. In this episode, I share with you what I learned from the locals in the village, who were very welcoming and took their time to educate me.
Note that sorghum is one of the healthiest and most nutritious food crops in the world. Sorghum is rich in vitamins and fiber; it is packed with essential minerals; it is gluten-free; and the list goes on. Have you heard of / tried sorghum yet?
I hope you SUBSCRIBE and JOIN ME on my journey of exploring West African food. New video every (other) Sunday.
