Queen Elizabeth II was admitted to the hospital for the first time in 10 years for gastroenteritis on Sunday. Officials say the hospitalization is a precautionary measure, with a spokesman saying the queen was in "good spirits" and was otherwise in "good health."
Gastroenteritis can be caused by bacteria, food poisoning, parasites and viruses. It most commonly occurs from unclean food and poor hand-washing habits.
Symptoms include headaches, low grade fever, bloating and cramps, vomiting, intestinal inflammation and diarrhea.
