Vietnam Reports were produced at the time of the war by the military as newsreels for the American public. All the film footage was shot in-country by combat cameramen, and Alan Smith anchors the report with various segments narrated at the scene by Armed Forces Radio And Television (AFRTS) newsmen. The overall quality of the film footage is only fair, a bit grainy, because the segments were broadcast in a studio from a television monitor. The film footage from 1968 includes segments on Highway 9, the Huey Cobra, the village of Tan Mai, and the USS Harnett County.
