Stanislaus County deputies found two people dead outside of a Modesto home Thursday afternoon after a report of a shooting, officials said. Their deaths are being investigated as an "apparent murder suicide" that stemmed from a custody dispute over children. Dispatchers got a call around 1:45 p.m. about a person shot in the 1500 block of Imperial Avenue, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said. While deputies were on the way, a second caller reported that someone shot her mother. Sgt. Erich Layton, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, later told KCRA 3 that the second caller appeared to "have a relationship with the deceased male," but authorities could not clarify what the nature of their relationship was. Sgt. Layton said witnesses told deputies that there was an argument between all three adults that centered around the child or children belonging to the second caller and the man who died.
