Just as the Allentown and Bethlehem NAACP's were ready to hold a press conference about the Voter ID Law Gov. Corbett announced he will not appeal the court ruling that struck down the commonwealth's voter identification law, though he still supports the idea of the law.
"A photo identification requirement is a sensible and reasonable measure for the commonwealth to reassure the public that everyone who votes is registered and eligible to cast a ballot," Corbett said. The law, which required a photo ID to vote in the commonwealth, was signed into law by Corbett in 2012 but was never enforced. It was struck down by a state judge in January.
The Press Conference went on as scheduled, headed by Bethlehem NAACP President, Esther M. Lee and followed by comments from the Allentown NAACP President, Dan Bosket, Northampton County Democratic Chair, Walt Garvin, Nancy Tate, LEPOCO, and Stephanie Hnatiw, Executive Director, YWCA Bethlehem.
The press conference was held at Payrow Plaza, City Hall Bethlehem, PA at 5:30pm
