Trailer Falls off Semi on Freeway! Imaging driving down the freeway, then looking in your rear view mirror and seeing your trailer on the ground behind as you gain speed? Unfortunately, it does happen. Most of these are due to people not doing a tug test and dropping these in a yard or while leaving a facility. In cases like this one, sometimes it's just faulty equipment that you can't do anything about.

This driver immediately noticed his trailer fell off his tractor during traffic. We were called by CHP to respond to lift the trailer back up and set it onto the semi. After several unsuccessful coupling attempts, Alex realized that the issue must be with the 5th wheel plate on the tractor. Newer ones are electric, but sometimes these 5th wheel plates can get jammed.

Such as this case, where a faulty locking mechanism caused this trailer king pin to slide out during transit and fall. Luckily, no one was injured and no property damage (besides of course the trailer itself). Realistically this was the best case scenario for dropping a trailer on the freeway. The guys worked quick to clear the scene, and Rudy used his wrecker to pull the trailer to the shoulder to open up traffic.

From there, Coffee Joe arrived in our brand new 2024 Peterbilt tractor to transport the trailer back to our yard per the customer's request. So what do you guys think, unlucky or lucky driver?
