Nineteenth Video in a Series covering all elements of Cisco Certified Network Associate (200-301 CCNA)
Blueprint Section: Network Fundamentals
In this section, we turn our focus to the last topics within IPv6. EUI-64, Anycast and Static Routing. First and most importantly we look at EUI-64. We discover EUI-64 is an addressing technique used to help with administrative overhead when configuring an IPv6 network.
We review the 48-bit MAC address and how FFFE is added to make it 64 bits, then how the 7th bit in the most significant byte is flipped. It's important you understand how to take a MAC address and make it an EUI-64 address
Moving on, we talked about Anycast. A new type of addressing added into IPv6 that goes alongside unicast and multicast. Anycast is considered One-to-Closest, where multiple servers around the world have the same IPv6 address and you’re redirected to the closed one.
We finished by going into the lab and configuring some static routing, confirming how this looks on the CLI and how much its similar to IPv4.
