Research teams from four countries led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences have wrapped up its expedition of the Guiliya Glacier on the Tibetan Plateau. The expedition, which kicked off in mid-September, is aimed at looking for clues about global warming and extreme weather by drilling ice core samples, which can provide reliable and highly accurate information about past climates and environmental changes that is stored in glaciers. Nicknamed “The Third Pole,” the Tibetan Plateau contains the world’s largest persistent ice mass outside of the Arctic Circle and Antarctica. Watch the video to witness the spectacular scenery.
