On Thursday 12th September 2024 my very own representative for Greenway, Labor MP And Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland tabled the Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024 in parliament.
If this bill passes through both houses it will give an unelected body ACMA (www.acma.gov.au) the ability to determine what is (and isn't) misinformation and disinformation. This means more power for our governments and more tax-payer funded bureaucrats to police our speech.
Naturally the government, legacy media and research bodies will be exempt with further protections for banks and financial institutions amongst many other erosions of our free speech.
During this live stream scheduled for Friday 27th September 2024 7 PM AEST / 5 PM AWST I will be undertake the boring task of reading through this legislation as a lay person (not a lawyer or parliamentarian) at the present time.
It's clear that our Members of Parliament are far too reliant on our apathy and silence. Let's change that!
