University of Madras, Chennai (Madras University or UNOM) was established in 1857. It has been approved by UGC as a State University and has been accredited with Grade A by NAAC in 2013. It offers courses in distance mode as well. It secured 22nd rank according to the NIRF 2020 Rankings.

The University offers UG, PG, Ph.D., diploma, and certification courses.The University offers various courses on its campuses in fields like social sciences, Indian and foreign languages, management studies, life sciences, and physical sciences.

The selection criterion for admission into all courses is entrance-based. For the MBA/MCA courses, students need to appear in the TANCET Exam.
