Got this "grandpa" off of the internet, as non-functional, of course, and expectedly, considering that these radios have inside a rechargeable lithium battery used as a stabilizing voltage reference which is loooong gone and dead and leaks all over the pcb turquoise-green corrosive alkaline goo. After replacing the cell with two diodes in series and in parallel with a cap it came back to life. I also did replace all its electrolytic capacitors and some waxy foil ones ...the plastic on them cracked and their values were all over the place. Also extended its FM band up to 108 MHz from the RF in coils/caps.
The reception quality is VERY good for an almost 60 year old Germanium socketed transistors set (it has 10 pcs inside). NO problems at all in catching all the FM stations and on AM it ain't no slouch either (Not the best i got on AM but still, very good). The sound quality is also nice, the 13x18cm speaker was in good optical shape, although i do believe it kinda stiffened over the years... lacks some bass (I have the next model too, 1964-64, a similar speaker, and that one has no problems with the lows).
