Welcome to the Merriam Pianos YouTube channel! Today, we’ve got part 2 of our new piano FAQ series as we tackle the most commonly asked questions about Kawai’s ES110 digital piano according to Google analytics.

FAQ #1: How Good is the ES110?
This is of course a super general question, but it makes obvious sense as to why someone beginning their research would ask it. The short answer is, very good, especially for the price and quality range.
Compared to other options in the price range, the quality of the piano tone paired with the speaker quality is truly sensational, arguably even the best option in the class. There’s a huge dynamic range, and the sense of shift from soft to loud is great.
Other perks for the price include discrete ¼” outputs, Bluetooth MIDI, a lightweight cabinet and very solid action.
FAQ #2: Is the ES110 Good for Beginners?
This is another very quick yes. There are of course other options available for less money that will also work for beginners, but what makes the ES110 a great option for beginners is that it’s a totally appropriate companion for someone taking piano lessons, which is not the case with many other so-called beginner options.
The other thing to consider is resale and trade-in value; the ES110 is going to retain excellent resale value for probably another 5 or 6 years from now, and this is definitely another important thing to factor in when considering beginner options.
FAQ #3: Does the ES110 Have Weighted Keys?
Yes, it does. The ES110 is equipped with Kawai’s Responsive Hammer Compact, a double sensor, and some textured keytops. The weighting is quite similar to what you’ll find on a 48” upright piano or small baby grand.
FAQ #4: When was the ES110 Released?
The ES110 was released in early 2017 - officially announced at NAMM 2017 - and hit North American showrooms throughout the spring of 2017. 5 years is a typical production cycle for many digital pianos, so with that, Kawai has just announced the replacement to the ES110 with the new ES120.
There are still quite a number of ES10s sitting in stores and warehouses, so it’s likely some clearance pricing will appear in the not-too-distant future.
FAQ #5: How do you Connect an ES110 to a Computer?
Connecting an ES110 to a computer is pretty straightforward; you’ll use a standard USB cable from the ES110 to your computer.
You could also hypothetically connect via Bluetooth, but it’s an older version of Bluetooth that may have some issues, so we’d recommend going with the old-school cabled route (this issue does not exist when connecting to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth).
FAQ #6: How do you Connect the ES110 to Bluetooth MIDI?
The first thing to do to get your ES110 paired with another device via Bluetooth is to press and hold the function button, and then the third Bb key from the top of the keyboard. This enables Bluetooth from the piano, and from there you’ll connect to the ES110 from your device.
Kawai’s Sound Museum app streamlines this process.
FAQ #7: How Much Does the ES110 Weigh?
The ES110 clocks in at just 26.5 lbs, making it one of the lightest 88-key digital pianos available.
FAQ #8: How do you Connect the ES110 to an iPad?
For the answer to this one,....
