GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – When the doors open back up at Salon Concepts, two new stylists will be waiting and ready to welcome their old and new clients.
"We picked up our keys the other day so that was really exciting,” said Ashley Glass.
Glass and Heather Bledsoe have known each other for years, working alongside each at a couple of different salons along the way. But when the coronavirus pandemic is over, the two won’t be going back to their old jobs, but rather new ones where they’ll be the boss.
"We’ve decided it was our time to start doing our own thing and go into a partnership together,” said Bledsoe.
The two will cut hair, style hair, and do lashes inside a suite space at Salon Concepts whenever salons open back up.
It has been a month since they’ve cut or styled hair. With the down time, the two decided to make the move.
"I felt what better time to do it than when I have all the time in the world right now,” said Glass.
It’s the right time for the move for Glass and Bledsoe, and it may be an even better move for their clients in a post COVID-19 world with continued social distancing.
"Everyone is going to be very nervous to go out to things like getting your hair done, nails done, things like that where there are so many people close to you,” said Bledsoe. “Being in a big salon can be difficult and can be very scary for a lot of clients after this because people will have a lot more phobias.”
The space is more intimate than a typical salon and has doors that can be closed off if that is what a client wants.
"You have common spaces and common areas like washer dryer, break room, waiting area and we all have our own rooms,” said Glass.
At the end of the day we want to get back to some kind of normalcy and routine. And that includes a haircut done by someone you don’t live with.
It’s unclear at this point where the cosmetology industry falls with the governors re-open plans.
