Whitney Portal Campground is a popular Spring/Summer campground in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountain range. For decades, many have visited the scenic beauty of the tall pine trees and rocky cliffs. Reservation and pre-payment is required, and it's rare to find a site available day-of. However, if you're backpacking to the top of Mount Whitney; or are visiting for just the day, there's a lot of free day visitor parking at the end of the road which leads to the Whitney Portal Pond and Whitney Portal Store at the Trailhead.
