Hi Guys,
This little walk to Dartmoor's highest peaks from Belstone started as a solo overnighter but I'm glad to say I had a visitor by way of my good mate Dave Vaughan (Please go check out his channel, link below)
I don't mind solo camping but its nicer to have company and a chat especially when the other person is so knowledgeable about camping, walking and the Moors.
Day one started a little later than planned but I did manage to pitch my tent before it got dark. The walk past the Belstone Ridge was awesome as it is the first time I've seen it without the mist covering it over. The rivers and streams were running full due to the heavy rain we have been experiencing lately.
The walk up to Yes Tor was a gentle stroll due to the MOD tracks and roads making this walk easily achievable by most walkers but care must be taken due to the very changeable weather experienced on the Moors, it can change without warning.
Once on Yes Tor I pitched just in time as it started to rain. My home for the night was just below the Tor overlooking the Belstone Ridge.
It rained for a few hours and this was followed by some very blustery 40 MPH winds well into the night. My good friend Dave arrived at 23:15 after what must of been a draughty wet walk. He was soon pitched up and making a brew and we chatted all things camping until 01:00.
Next morning the wind and rain were nowhere to be seen and it was a nice calm morning. Dave informed me of a very nice place for breakfast in Princetown called The Fox Tor Cafe and we decided to break camp and head that way on our rout home. The walk back from Yes Tor was easy and mostly downhill to Dave's car which was parked near Row Tor, we passed some MOD firing ranges on the way and had a look around the firing positions witch were very interesting, Upon arriving at the car park Dave Kindly gave me a lift to my car which was parked about a mile away in Belstone, I could of walked back but that would of meant Dave waiting around and he had a longer drive home that me.
Well Breakfast at the Fox Tor Cafe didn't disappoint and true to Dave's word tasted lovely, we chatted with other campers and walkers for an hour or two drinking coffee and then made our separate ways home to start the ritual of unpacking and drying out kit ready for the next adventure.
I hope you find this mini adventure as enjoyable as I did, and I can't wait to get back out there.
Thanks for watching and please feel free to like, comment and subscribe for more adventures to come.
All the very best
