"From Chaos to Order: Greek Geometric Art from the Sol Rabin Collection" is the first major museum exhibition in the United States in more than 25 years to focus on Greek art during the Geometric period (c. 900-700 B.C.). (Shop the catalogue: [ Ссылка ]) It is the first exhibition of its kind to focus on the aesthetics of Greek Geometric art and to demonstrate how stylistic principles in visual art during the Geometric period reflect a characteristically Greek idea of the beautiful (kallos). A new visual vocabulary developed during this period — one that stressed clarity, balance, and symmetry.
This exhibition brings long overdue attention to this formative period of Greek art, a period that also witnessed the invention of the Greek alphabet, the rise of the Panhellenic sanctuaries (e.g. Olympia and Delphi), and the development of the organizational structure of the Greek city-state (polis). The exhibition is entirely drawn from the collection of Sol Rabin.
"From Chaos to Order: Greek Geometric Art from the Sol Rabin Collection" is organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, and now on display at the Rollins Museum of Art, Orlando through May 8, 2022.
