Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says the House will move forward with legislation to ban TikTok. McCarthy tweeted the news on Sunday, just days after TikTok CEO Shou Chew defended the app in testimony to lawmakers. Wyoming Republican Cynthia Lummis joined Yahoo Finance and discussed a possible ban. “I'm taking the attitude of watching the continued hearings within the House…and perhaps holding hearings in the Senate as well to try to figure out how we can either wall off customer data from the Chinese Communist Party or if all else fails, ban TikTok,” Senator Lummis said. She added, “I'm continuing to gather information. I think I could eventually conclude that the only way to protect ourselves from TikTok in particular is to ban it.” Watch more of Yahoo Finance’s interview with Senator Lummis here.
