HISTORY
Sundorne Castle Estate has been established since the 17th century.
Originally, belonging to the Corbet Family, however, the marriage between Mary Katherine Corbet and Philip Roger de Quincey meant that Sundorne Castle Estate passed to the de Quincey family.
The family association continues unbroken to this day, with the family actively involved in the management and success of the now diversified estate.
At one time The Estate, compromised the majority of what is Sundorne and Harlescott giving its name to the area.
Sundorne Castle and Abbey originally was the centrifuge of The Estate, with Haughmond Castle (Lodge) a 17th century hunting folly, sat proudly on the top of Haughmond Hill.
It is thought that the house was not occupied during WWII for war purposes, and quickly fell into disrepair.
In 1955 the application to demolish the castle was granted, even though it was a listed building.
