Australia prides itself on its cultural diversity, speaking over 260 languages as a nation and identifying over 300 separate ancestries in the 2011 Census. Since the immigration boom after the Second World War, our nation has benefited from population diversity economically and culturally, as well as in our understanding of the world. The National Agenda for a Multicultural Australia states that "We are, and will remain, a multicultural society", but what does multiculturalism in Australia mean to the individual? And how do young people living in Australia who have a different cultural upbringing identify themselves?
