PLEASE NOTE: The newer models are very different. They now have all lacquer finishing, no arched back, and other changes making this review outdated.
Summary: Intermediate students can't always make the jump to a $7000 single-luthier made instrument. Coming in around $2000 Canadian this guitar has many of the features of a modern instrument: lattice bracing, raised fingerboard, arm rest, French polished top, Indian rosewood back and sides, truss rod (a fine upgrade for an intermediate factor guitar), and some good volume and response. I thought the bass register was too heavy and overall a bit muddy so the balance is a little off. I've also had reports from other buyers that the bass was too heavy. That said, the tone is warm, forgiving, and full sounding. If you value balance over volume and tone there are other choices out there. In this price range I often recommend the Cordoba C12 for its balance even though it doesn’t keep up in terms of volume or modern features. It's a question of what you value and the price you're willing to pay. Also, this review is getting old now so the new ones might be different.
