Nursing Home Abuse
What is nursing home abuse or elder abuse?
If your loved one is in an adult care facility or group home, and you see signs of abuse or neglect, you may need to explore a vulnerable adult claim.
What are signs of nursing home abuse?
Your loved one may be a victim of abuse if there is unexplained bruising and bed sores on their body. Poor hygiene, whether the care is being refused by the caregiver or the caregiver is simply failing to provide adequate care, is also a type of abuse.
Look around the facility or home – routinely, the caregivers that are abusing loved ones are those within poorly maintained facilities.
What kind of abuse?
Often, the abuse is carried out by one or more caregivers over their patient, your loved one, and is used to demonstrate power over your loved one.
The abuse can be physical – sometimes leaving markings on their body. But it can also be emotional or psychological – where care is withheld by the caregiver or the caregiver makes your loved one feel unloved and isolated.
