Did you know that your website speed affects the bounce rate of your Ecom website? The slower your page load speed is, the higher your bounce rate. And a high bounce rate means users or potential customers hate your website.
So how do you fix? How can you optimize the page load time of your Ecom store? The first thing you should do is to conduct a website speed test.
To do this, you can fire up two tools. First is the Google page speed insights. This tool provides suggestions to make your page load faster and more information about the performance of your page.
The second one is called Pingdom speed test. This website speed test tool tests the load time speed of your store and analyzes it to find bottlenecks that are causing slow load time.
Both of these are useful for seeing how fast your product page loads on browsers and how efficient the code is.
But why should you care about your page load time? Here are a few reasons:
1. As the seconds in your load time increase, so does your bounce rate. A page load time of 1 second provides a stress-free experience to users
2. Faster page load time makes your customers feel that they are in control. But if it has to take 10 second for your page to load, that will barely keep your users’ attention, and they will unlikely visit your website again.
3. As the seconds increase, the patience of users decreases.
Now, if you're using Shopify or if you’re using Shogun to build your page, you’re going to be limited in the deep technical work you can do to improve your page. The good news is that Shogun has what’s called ‘lazy loading’ built in. It basically means that when the page loads, it only loads the first part of the page rather than the whole thing. This makes the page load way faster.
Another thing you can do to optimize your page load speed is to set up Google Analytics. You should do this as soon as possible so you can start properly tracking the data on your store and also track conversions.
The last thing I’ll recommend here is properly adding Schema Markup to your product page. Schema markup is basically extra info that’s on your website that search engines can read when they crawl your site.
