Hathor could acted as the daughter and consort of the sun god Ra, she was also perceived as the original mother of the falcon god Horus before the Osiris myth took prominence importance in Egypt giving this role to the goddess Isis. As the sky goddess, Hathor was seen as the mother of the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, and due to her relationship with the eye of Ra, the goddess Hathor represented the morning and evening star Venus.
During the Greco-Roman period, Hathor was perceived as the moon divinity related to celestial precious bodies, such as gold, copper, silver and turquoise. the Egyptian goddess had great prominence during that time, and the Greeks and Roman would identify her with their own goddess of love and beauty, the goddess Aphrodite and The goddess Venus respectively.
The dead women would identify themselves with the moral integrity of Hathor, while the male dead would continue to identify themselves with the god Osiris. The Egyptian goddess Hathor earned many names during her period such as Hesat, The Foremost one who defended her father Ra, against the serpent god of chaos, Apophis (Apep). Hathor was also called Lady of the drunkenness and joy, because of the festive aspect of her cult. The goddess of beauty and sexuality, Hathor was believed to be of extreme beauty. In Egyptian mythology, Religion and History, the goddess Hathor was said to have been the primordial goddess from whom all others were derived, such as the Seven Hathors who were regarded as the goddesses of fate involved in childbirth.
Hathor, the cow goddess was often depicted as a beautiful woman with the head of a cow wearing a sun or solar disc over her head surrounded by the horns of a cow.
The cow goddess was associated in early myths to the lion goddess Sekhmet as mentioned in the story of the Legend of the Eye of Ra, in which she was sent to punish humanity, while in later she is associated with the goddess Isis who took over her characteristics and later became the most important goddess in Egypt.
