To find three equivalent fraction for 1/6, we can multiple 1/6 by the equivalent of 1/1. For example:
1/6 x 1/1 = 1/6
since 1/1 = 1 and multiplying by 1 does not change the value.
If we multiply:
1/6 x 2/2 = 2/12
Here again, since 2/2 = 1 we aren't changing the value, just the way it is written. Both 1/6 and 2/12 are equal to 0.16 (the 6 repeats).
We could also multiply by 3/3, 4/4, 5/5 and so on to find more fractions that are equal to 1/6. As long as we are multiplying by the equivalent of 1, we'll get a fraction that is the same as 2/12.
