What’s a chloroplast?
Know that a chloroplast is an organelle inside of a plant. And if you’re not sure what an organelle is, just remember that a chloroplast is something you find in a plant cell.
Water and carbon dioxide (CO2) undergo reactions inside the chloroplast
The reactions make oxygen (O2) and glucose (C6H12O6)
We can digest simple carbs faster than complex carbs.
Simple carbs = “sugar rush”
i.e. chocolate
Complex carbs = longer lasting energy
Banana
Your body breaks down most carbs into glucose, which goes into your bloodstream
“Blood sugar” = blood glucose
The hormone insulin tells your cells to remove glucose from your bloodstream
Insulin = key that unlocks your cells
Once glucose enters a cell, your body can either:
-Use it for instant energy
-Store it for later as a carb (glycogen)
-Store it as fat
The body has limited storage capacity for carbs, so excess carbs from your diet get stored as fat.
