One of the most famous Gergorian chants. The Dies Irae comes from the Reqiuem Mass (Mass for the Dead). This particular chant has been used by a number of composers, including Franz Liszt in his "Dance of Death", Hector Berlioz in his "Symphonie Fantastique", and even in Stanley Kubrick's film, "The Shining."

The chant is thought to have been composed by Thomas of Celano in the 13th Century, but may have been composed by Pope St. Gregory the Great in the 6th Century.
