A Florida man, Michael M. Wiseman, was arrested for making threats on social media against former President Donald Trump and his vice-presidential pick, Sen. JD Vance, just days after an attempted assassination at Trump's rally.
Jupiter, Florida police announced that Wiseman is charged with written threats to kill after an investigation revealed he had threatened Trump, Vance, and their families. The threats were discovered through online crime tips and concerned residents.
Last Saturday, Trump was wounded in the assassination attempt at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally, which resulted in one attendee's death and two injuries. Following the incident, Trump, fresh from the Republican National Convention, named "Hillbilly Elegy" author Vance as his vice-presidential pick.
Detectives, after reviewing Wiseman's Facebook account, found multiple threats of bodily harm towards Trump and Vance. Wiseman, 68, appeared in court on Saturday and is scheduled for another hearing in August. Local police collaborated with the U.S. Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office for the investigation. Wiseman was arrested without incident.
Jupiter is approximately 20 miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. In the aftermath of the shooting, several individuals nationwide faced job consequences for making offensive remarks about the incident on social media.
