Did I lose my mucus plug? - All about the mucus plug
The mucus plug:
Grows in the cervix during pregnancy
Present for the protection of baby
Prevents bacteria from entering the cervix, weakening the bag of waters, and rupturing membranes early
Might “come out” around weeks 37 gestation
May be clear, pink or brown in color (should not be green or brown in color or have a foul odor)
You may ask, “Is my labor going to start now that my mucus plug has come out?”
There is no correlation between time of mucus plug discharge and onset of labor
Loss of the mucus plug is a preparatory phase in late pregnancy as the cervix begins to open (dilate) and thin (effacement)
