Kuon (2004) - Walkthrough - PS2 Gameplay - Full Yin Phase Playthrough - All Cutscenes, Commentary. Mars, Neptune, & Uranus Sacred Cloths Locations / Underground NE / Dokai Boss fight / Shrine Garden & Storeage locations.
Playstation 2 has many horror games, and Kuon is a believed cult classic in a sea of legends. This is my blind playthrough of PS2's Kuon, starting with Yin Phase as Utsuki, we introduce ourselves to the characters and story of Kuon. With a strong horror atmosphere, the opening of this game is enough to make any survival horror fan excited.
In this part on Kuon (PS2) walkthrough; Utsuki explores the underground cave, found beyond the staircase of the Temple Main room. Here we find the Mars Sacred Cloth key, and make our way back to the Temple Main, where a cutscene plays of Utsuki passing out, only to wake inside a basket at Underground: NE. After a battle with ghosts, we find the scythe, the key item used to cut past a cocoon to make progress. That's when we again meet Doman, Utsuki and Kureha's father. He speaks about rebirth, and tells Utsuki to get inside a wicker chest. While still underground, we check the map, and head towards the lab and nusery. Meeting the creepy twins again as they sing, they tell Utsuki to get into the wicker chest, too, like Doman. Utsuki does just that, passing out, and waking at a waterfall by the Shrine Garden. And now we finally find the Neptune Sacred Cloths location in a chest close by. Making our way to Shrine: Storeage and Utsuki's Entry, we find a new weapon; the Summer Blade. After picking up the Summer Blade. Utsuki scares a man, Dokai, away, causing him to run outside. We find Dokai later, now an enemy, attacking Utsuki. Once defeated, Dokai drops the Uranus Sacred Cloth key item to open Uranus sealed doors. Leaving with the Mars Sacred Cloth, Neptune Sacred Cloth, and Uranus Scared Cloth now in my key items, I return to the Shrine: Garden and save the game, ending this walkthrough episode of Kuon on PS2.
Kuon, by Fromsoftware is a Sony Playstation 2 (PS2) survival horror video game in which the player takes on the role of three characters—Utsuki, Sakuya, and Abe no Seimei—exploring the buildings and grounds of Fujiwara Manor. The characters are seen from an overhead third-person fixed perspective. The characters navigate the mansion during gameplay; the standard pace is a slow walk, with an option to run, but comes with a greater risk of attracting enemies. To progress the game, the characters explore the mansion to solve puzzles and find key items. Items are displayed in environments using flashing points of light. From the beginning of the game, certain doors within the mansion grounds are sealed, and require a particular item to open. These items can be restricted to particular characters.
During navigation, the characters are attacked by monsters, many of which are drawn by noise. The characters have access to different weapon types; Utsuki uses a knife, Sakuya uses a fan, and Abe no Seimei, a naginata. There is no lock-on, meaning characters must be aligned manually before attacking an enemy. The characters can also find a limited number of spell cards during exploration, which can be used in combat. There are two types of cards; projectiles that trigger an immediate attack, and summoning papers that create an allied creature for a limited time that attacks enemies.
Navigation is impeded by areas of negative energy, both occurring naturally and when enemies appear. The characters can be afflicted with vertigo when low on health, or struck by dark energy; when struck by the energy when running, the character is momentarily stunned. The character can recover by standing still and using meditation to restore health and remove the vertigo effect. The player can also use healing items found around the manor to restore health.
Kuon (PS2) takes place in and around Fujiwara Manor, an estate in Kyoto, Japan during the Heian period. Central to the plot are two magical Mulberry trees planted near the present Fujiwara Manor by the Hata clan. The trees birth silkworms which weave cocoons around the dead and resurrect them. The resurrection can only be sustained by merging with other living beings, including humans, and absorbing their grudge. The ultimate goal of the Mulberries is to perform the merging nine times, completing the Kuon Ritual and birthing a being which will become a new Mulberry.
This Kuon walkthrough was recorded on PCSX2 emulator ISO at 1440p, so the graphics look beautiful and sharp. The entire game works well, and my playthrough didn't run into any problems as is always a fear. Though during gameplay, a few funny moments happen due to the widescreen hack on the emulator, but gameplay of Kuon is just perfect.
I love horror games, and the Sony PS2 is my favourite. Enjoy my full playthrough and commentary!
