We tried husky sledding in Lapland, Finland and in this video, we share our experience.
Before booking the tour, we researched how ethical it is to ride husky dogs in Lapland. We discovered that this has always been a way of life for people in the arctic regions, the same way camels are highly important to the people of the Sahara. They have been used for centuries, to get to hard-to-reach places during winter. They are also used for herding on farms.
Another interesting fact is that they need to burn lots of energy each day, so they should run at least 2HOURS a day, or else, they would be very unhappy dogs. In addition, because they were bred to survive freezing temperatures, they thrive more in the winter
We found a small husky farm called Baba Husky, with great values and a genuine love for their dogs. These are the values we appreciated the most:

1. They don't breed only specific-looking husky dogs. All husky breeds were welcome regardless of their lineage.
2. The dogs are very well taken care of with no maltreatment
3. The husky farm is run by a Sami family, the indigenous people of Lapland.

The actual husky sledding was a truly exhilarating experience. The dogs are very fast and were in control, only listening to their keeper's commands.
Often, some of the huskies would stop to smell things or play with each other. The guides let them do what they wanted for a while before gently leading them back on the road.
After the husky sledding, the dogs all looked super relaxed and satisfied.
It was a truly amazing experience!
If you're not a fan of dog sledding, that's understandable. However, we still think that people should visit Finland for the beauty that it holds.
