Song composed by Giorgio Pinna with a Jinashi Shakuhachi 1.8 flute in D minor, the piece is a simple but careful research of sound and emptiness, trying to keep the nuances of ancient Japanese honkyoku music, of komuso monks or "The Monks of the Void".
Description by Alex Pini: Collaboration with Shakuhachi Master Jo Pinna who kindly made me available and interpreted your composition "The monks of the void" with a Jianshi Shakuachi 1.8 flute in D minor.
Personally, I have divided the composition into parts to make room for different short sound interventions and I have selected parts of the performance to use them in the introduction and in an interlude.
The sonorization employed both electronic instruments (modular and non-analog synths and digital synths) and recordings of various percussions (wood, bamboo, bells, drums, chimes, cymbals, shells, stones, glass, zither and piano strings, etc. .. etc ...).
The sense of the sonorization was to create external sonorities of elements that the monks can only imagine, not seeing, and the noise of blades that belongs to them, being a warrior order. The sense of spirit and steel.
All sounds, except the shakuachi, have also been treated with filters and resonators and delays and reverbs.
A passionate tribute also to certain psychedelic atmospheres to emphasize the expressiveness of the Japanese instrument.
