The short answer…IT DEPENDS!⬇️
WE ALL HEAL DIFFERENTLY! I say this to my patients all the time. I have been getting hundreds of questions about what to do during pregnancy and postpartum but the truth is that it depends on your specific situation!✅
The point is to talk or see a pelvic floor PT during and after pregnancy to help prevent injury, relieve pain, and recover so you can take care of yourself, your newborn, and your family❤️
When did I start? The same day I had surgery. Yes, I started implementing education to protect my surgery site such as splinting, log roll technique, breathing, bracing, standing at edge of bed, sitting at edge of bed, walking to the bathroom, etc.✅
There are a variety of factors that you just can’t control during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum…(like an emergency c-section)
So it is important to focus on all the things you can control like EXERCISE! It’s important to prepare mentally, and physically for whatever comes your way. That’s why I recommend patients see or talk with a pelvic floor PT at least once during pregnancy and again postpartum!❤️
I’m 16 wks pp now and have been progressing my home programs to help strengthen my abdominal muscles and pelvic floor BUT still am too weak for certain activities & exercises‼️
It’s incredible how my body and mind are healing so well after having a c-section by following the exercises from my online programs at home even if it’s only 5-15 min on days baby girl is fussy or I need to catch up on sleep!
Yes, I have been doing breathing for my belly and pelvic floor everyday and have begun to add stretching, strengthening, and walking 30-60 min daily!✅
