Close to Karnala Bird Sanctuary near Mumbai, I went to watch the beautiful Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher also known as black-backed kingfisher or three-toed kingfisher in action. Colorful, vibrant, and lively this bird made my birding trip an amazingly wonderful experience.
Size of ODK - 13 cm
Found in - Southern & Northern range of Western Ghats India, Sri Lanka, and Northeast. Also found in Southeast Asia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
Preferred habitat - Small streams in densely shaded forests
Food habits - Small vertebrates, including forest skink, geckos, lizards, crabs, tadpoles, snails, frogs, crickets, and dragonflies.
