Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has sought a legal opinion on the Maha Vikas Aghadi government's request to conduct the Assembly Speaker's election through a voice vote instead of a secret ballot. Maharashtra has not had a full-time Assembly Speaker for the last three Assembly sessions since Nana Patole resigned from the post to take over as Maharashtra Congress chief. Koshyari informed the MVA delegation that he would be taking a legal opinion on the issue. This comes as the Opposition, the BJP, has already questioned the MVA's move to hold the Speaker's election through a voice vote by effecting a rule change. Under the MVA arrangement, the Speaker's post is to be with Congress. However, the party has not announced any candidates for the post.
