Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje cast her vote today and said, "I would just like to request all voters, especially the young ones, to come out to vote. This is also a vote cast for nation-building."
Polling in Rajasthan began at 7 am on Saturday, to elect members of a new assembly with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aiming to unseat the ruling Congress. According to chief electoral officer Praveen Gupta, polling will be held in 199 out of 200 constituencies. The votes will be counted on December 3. As many as 1862 candidates are in the fray with the number of voters being 5,25,38,105.
Among the Congress leaders in the fray are Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, assembly speaker CP Joshi, several other ministers including Shanti Dhariwal, BD Kalla, Bhanwar Singh Bhati, Saleh Mohammad, Mamta Bhupesh, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Rajendra Yadav, Shakuntla Rawat, Udai Lal Anjana, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, Ashok Chandna and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot.
