This week, Marcus is taking our new Player Series Jaguar Bass a spin. This new series has officially replaced the Mexican Standard series, and with it comes a few new pieces -- one of which is the re-issue of the Jag bass.
This time around, the Jag has a full 34" scale and a PJ pickup setup, lending to it some serious sonic versatility. You can get everything from fat grindy P-bass sounds, twangy bridge Jazz sounds as well as a unique middle selection that gets that jazz bass mid-scooped growl, but with a fatter, woolier voice. It's sort of a greatest hits of Fender bass tones.
As far as playability is concerned, the jag bass' neck dimensions are identical to that of a standard Jazz bass, with a narrow, comfortable nut width. Along with that comes an offset Jag body, that balances much like a Jazz-bass. All in all, this would be a great pick for Fender bass fans looking for a fresh aesthetic.
In this video, we're simply running direct out of the back of the Rumble 500 into a Scarlet 2i2 interface, and there is some room sound blended back in from the camera's Rode Videomic-Go.
Enjoy!
