A small something I want to point to anyone who listens to this lecture, is that I was asked a question about whether the famous story of that companion who became lost in the sea and then ended up meeting dajjal was a correct story or not and wether he is alive or not, When asked I said الله اعلم. The reason why I said that and even though it is in saheeh Muslim is due to the following.
1. The difference of opinion between the scholars in regards to this narration in saheeh Muslim and because it contradicts an authentic Hadeeth in Bukhari.
Ibn uthaimin takes the opinion that dajjal is not currently alive and present even though the Hadeeth of jassaaasa when abu dhar got lost in the ocean they saw the dajjal
His proof is the Hadeeth
((انه على رأس م اة سنة لا يبقى على وجه
الارض ممن هو عليها اليوم ))
Meaning of the Hadeeth is " none remains on the face of earth, when a 100 years kick in that is currently alive today.
So basically it is not possible that he has been living since the time of the prophet salalahu alayhi wasalam according to this Hadeeth which is in Bukhari.
And this was in the last Khutbah he gave.
2. Secondly the Hadeeth of when they got lost and the meeting with dajjal which is found in saheeh Muslim
Imam Ibn uthaimin feels that the matan (wording) of the Hadeeth consists of نكارة and he doesn't feel content about and even Muhammed Rashd ridaa in his tafseer rejected it severely and mentioned said it is far off that this is the speech of the prophet salalahu alayhi wasalam.
But I have also found that shaykh Albani clearly feels there is no problem with the Hadeeth
So because of this I believe it requires a bit more research before I personally can be more firm on taking a firmer position on wether we can confirm the authenticity of this story
And Allah knows.
