At the #ArthouseAsiaFilmFestival held in Kolkata this week, film critic #RajeevMasand conducted a panel with four independent filmmakers whose most recent films are screening at the festival -- #SanalKumarSasidharan (#Chola in #Malayalam), #RonnySen (#CatSticks in #Bengali), #PradipKurbah (#Iewduh or #Market, in #Khasi), and #VijayJayapal (#NirvanaInn in #Assamese and #Hindi). The filmmakers spoke about the challenges facing the production and release of independent films, the importance of film festivals for the growth of independent cinema, and the responsibility to address what is troubling them in the real world through their films.
