2017 Honda Civic Type R Transmission Problems - 2nd Gear Grind / Crunch
I didn't want to make the video longer than it needed to be to tell the simple story behind what you probably just watched above. I purchased my 2017 Civic Type R #490 about two months ago and have now put right at 1,200 miles on her.
The first time I had the 1-2 grind / crunch was at about 300 miles. Then it happened again at the following mileage intervals: 600, 700, 850, 1050. The 1,050 mile point is where I made the video above in one day where it actually did the grind / crunch on (3) separate occasions but I only had the camera rolling for the (2) occasions you see above.
I've driven nothing but manual cars, motorcycles, ATVs etc my entire life so I am very familiar with how to drive one properly without grinding gears. I have owned and built 20+ different Honda cars alone sine I was 16 with turbo / all-motor setups etc and I have had more gears grind in the last 1,000 miles on my Type R then everything else combined haha. I still currently own a Honda S2000 and have never had a gear grind in it nor my daily beater Acura RSX Type S. I doubted myself at first thinking maybe I've just went stupid and forgot how to drive a manual car but that's not the case as I jump in every other Honda of mine and have no issues at all. Combine that with more and more people on [ Ссылка ] reporting the same problem and it looks like I'm possibly not crazy after all.
* This is not to bash the Type R or Honda etc. I love the car and everything about it, I just wanted to document this problem and also let others know that may be running into the same problem that they aren't alone. I have a small road trip planned this week but when I get back I will be taking it to the dealership I purchased it from. It's doubtful that anything will be fixed as so far the other guys that have posted the same problem were just told that they would log the issue with Honda and then go from there.
Updates? This video was posted on 9/14/2017. I will be updating this description box as things progress and I will also be breaking all of it down in more detail in my blog over at [ Ссылка ]
